Overhand Serve Reception

February 6, 2012

The key to overhand serve reception (Setting/volleying) or receiving an attack with your hands (setting/volleying) is to keep your hands, wrists, and fingers much stiffer (cue erection jokes) than you would when you are volleying the ball to your teammates.

Try and keep your hands firm, keep them in front of your forehead and as soon as you contact the ball really drive UP as opposed to forward. This ensures that at the very least, your pass will be high, ensuring that your team has time to get to the ball to make a second contact.

As with any kind of passing in volleyball, you always want to get your body behind the ball before making contact. So stay low, move your feet and push up with your legs to get more power behind your pass.
