Hitting

November 13, 2011

Due to popular request, we’ll be practicing hitting again on Sunday. We’ll mainly be focusing on proper technique just as we did last time we worked on it. For I2 we’ll be working on some placement technique as well.

Short video… pay attention to the distance the player keeps from the net… this is very important for safety and consistency. If you keep your distance from the net you are able to really follow through with your full arm swing, and it keeps your options open for where you are going to hit the ball.

Turn your volume up for this one…they are speaking pretty quietly.

Just a quick video about some common mistakes regarding hitting technique. One thing that they don’t mention is that fact that all of these mistakes also lead to shoulder injuries. Having proper technique not only allows for the best power/consistency, it also is the most energy efficient and least straining motion for your body.

One of the biggest pieces of advice I can tell you all is to just be patient. If you’re having difficulty with any of the skills that we try and teach, don’t worry! None of the movements in volleyball are things that you’ll do in your average life, so if you’ve never played before it’s going to take a lot of practice to get your body used to them.

If you put pressure on yourself to get everything within the 10-15 minutes session we have once a week, you’re going to be very stressed out during a time when you should be having fun and enjoying the company of the rest of our awesome members (not to mention your amazing board of directors ;) ).

Everyone is learning, and everyone learns at different speeds. Just keep positive, keep smiling, and eventually things will fall in to place!
