Blocking

October 30, 2011

This week we’re working on blocking.

Good tips on where your body should be in regards to the attacking player. Don’t focus too much on reading the setter and his tendencies…with the level we’re playing at there will usually only be one or two hitting options. I2 Players: Try and see if you can start to read the setters in your division and pick up on some of their tendencies…like he says…if you start now eventually it will become automatic.

Also a great tip is about attacking the ball…it’s a great mentality to get in to, but you need to make sure that you’re still not touching the net. Until you get comfortable with jumping and clearing your hands completely over the net, don’t worry too much about the penetration at this point.

Good tips on the technique for blocking itself. Definitely keep the distance from the net, as well as going for a max jump as well. We’ll be practicing blocks a few times just on your own, then we’ll move on to having jumping up to touch (or grab if you can) a ball that the coach is holding above the net.
